Urge Your Senators to Vote YES on the Amendment, Deny NAI
Updated On: Jul 199, 2014

UPDATE: The Senate bill has been withdrawn from consideration but may come up in the future. Please check back frequently for updates.

Action is needed now in the U.S. Senate! We scored a major victory to #DenyNAI on June 9 when the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the DeFazio/Westmoreland Amendment to H.R. 4745, the FY 2015 Transportation Appropriations bill. Not one member of the House of Representatives opposed our efforts to level the playing field for U.S. crewmembers. The amendment simply requires the Department of Transportation (DOT) to follow U.S. law and labor protection provisions outlined in the U.S.-EU Open Skies Agreement when considering an application for a foreign air carrier permit. The strength of our collective voice was heard by the House. Now we must make our voices resonate in the Senate. It is time to take action again. Our efforts are working!

Senators Klobuchar (D-MN), Coats (R-IN), Schatz (D-HI) and Blunt (R-MO) will offer an amendment this week when the Senate takes up its FY 2015 Transportation Appropriations bill (S. 2438). This amendment mirrors the one passed in the House last week. Debate is scheduled to start soon, so the time to act is now!  Take action today and send a message to your U.S. senator.

Call your senators through the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote YES on the Klobuchar-Coats-Schatz-Blunt Amendment to Deny NAI! Every email and phone call counts!

TAKE ACTION  and Call today

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
"Hello, my name is _____ and I am calling from city/state. As the Senate considers the 2015 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill, I urge the Senator to support the amendment requiring the Department of Transportation to uphold labor standards outlined in the U.S.-EU Open Skies agreement before approving any foreign carrier’s application for service to the United States.

This bipartisan amendment will ensure U.S. airlines have a level playing field and will help prevent unfair competition from foreign airlines seeking to evade international labor law and worker protections. At a time when the U.S. is engaged in broader trade negotiations with the EU, it is critical that the labor protection article in the existing agreement is enforced."

Dear Senator:

As you consider the FY 2015 Transportation Appropriations Act (S. 2438), the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA urges you to vote YES on the Klobuchar-Coats-Schatz-Blunt amendment to ensure our U.S. airlines and Flight Attendants are afforded a level playing field for transatlantic flying.

Preventing Norwegian Air International (NAI) from severely undercutting U.S. airlines, threatening our jobs, and setting a harmful precedent that would undermine U.S. labor and safety rules is a top priority. Together with aviation workers from across the industry, we are encouraging members of the U.S. Senate to stand up for our jobs.

NAI’s business model is clearly designed to diminish labor standards.  At a time when the U.S. is engaged in broader trade negotiations with the EU, it is critical that the labor protection article in the existing agreement is enforced.  We urge the U.S. Senate to pass the Klobuchar-Coats-Schatz-Blunt amendment to S. 2438.
